A very interesting sound detecting robot kit. The four built-in microphones detect the sound source and the robot turns and moves towards it. Just clap and the robot will come to you. Clap again from another position and the robot will turn and move in that direction.
Assembly required, so if you are willing to give a kid not only a toy but some knowledge and an opportunity to tamper with technology this could be a great gift and can also serve as great educational toys.
If only it would vacuum the floor when chasing your child around the house!!!
Recommended Age 8 - We feel it is appropriate for 6+ with adults help in assembly. Labels: gifts for boys, kids robot, top gifts, toy stores portland
So your baby is no longer a baby and ready for a big kid room. Turning a child’s dream bedroom into reality doesn’t require back-breaking work or bank-breaking costs. With ingenuity, careful shopping and a willingness to put some sweat equity into the project, parents can help their child put together their dream room in a weekend.
Here are some ideas: • Repurpose your furniture where you can. Don't be afraid to paint it so all furniture is clean and consistent in color. If you do need to change to a bigger bed - View Beds. • Make an impact! Change the wall color to a color that makes everything else in the room pop. I painted my son's room in a Luau Green - it makes his Arlington Ayres Twin Bed stand out and makes the room bright and modern. • Every room needs a focal point. Wall graphics are a great inexpensive way (starting at $25) to create a focal point and have art without a huge commitment. • Your biggest investment should be a great bedding set (starting at $165). Dwells new Owl Print and Paper Dolls Print has been very popular because it's a fantastic transition design. Labels: kids room makeovers, modern kids room designs, twin bedding sets, twin beds

Kiva's mission is to connect people through lending for the sake of alleviating poverty. Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe. The people you see on Kiva's site are real individuals - not marketing material. When you browse entrepreneurs' profiles on the site, choose someone to lend to, and then make a loan, you are helping a real person make great strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates and track repayments. Then, when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need. Kiva partners with existing expert microfinance institutions. In doing so, we gain access to outstanding entrepreneurs from impoverished communities world-wide. Our partners are experts in choosing qualified entrepreneurs. That said, they are usually short on funds. Through Kiva, our partners upload their entrepreneur profiles directly to the site so you can lend to them. When you do, not only do you get a unique experience connecting to a specific entrepreneur on the other side of the planet, but our microfinance partners can do more of what they do, more efficiently. Kiva provides a data-rich, transparent lending platform. We are constantly working to make the system more transparent to show how money flows throughout the entire cycle, and what effect it has on the people and institutions lending it, borrowing it, and managing it along the way. To do this, we are using the power of the internet to facilitate one-to-one connections that were previously prohibitively expensive. Child sponsorship has always been a high overhead business. Kiva creates a similar interpersonal connection at much lower costs due to the instant, inexpensive nature of internet delivery. The individuals featured on our website are real people who need a loan and are waiting for socially-minded individuals like you to lend them money. What to Expect When You're Expected

A Fetus's Guide to the First Three TrimestersThe usually behind-the-scenes David Javerbaum made us laugh with his new book, What to Expect When You’re Expected: A Fetus’s Guide to the First Three Trimesters. You might know Javerbaum as a Tony-nominated Broadway lyricist, but it’s more likely that you know him from his comedy work: The Daily Show, where he has spent years as both head writer and then executive producer; America: The Book for which he was also of the three principal authors; and Stephen Colbert’s A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All, for which he was the lyricist. This new second edition is filled with the latest, most accurate wombhood information, including comforting answers to hundreds of questions, such as
• “My mother just took a sip of white wine. Am I going to end up looking like some Chernobyl baby now?” • “So far Mommy is spending most of her pregnancy in a state of stress, anxiety, and depression. Which one should she focus on?” • “I’m kicking as hard as I can, but Mom says it feels like ‘butterflies fluttering.’ Am I doing something wrong?” • “Why do my parents blast Mozart at me every night right when I’m trying to sleep?!?” • “To the nearest hundred, how many people should Mommy invite to my birth?”
